Fem papperslösa kvinnors historier / Cinco historias de mujeres indocumentadas är en helt tvåspråkig (och nästan helt trespråkig) seriebok baserad på intervjuer med fem papperslösa kvinnor som bor eller har bott i Sverige. Det är viktigt att berätta sådana historier på ett tillgänglit sätt, och hela projektet Tusen serier verkar vara rätt intressant, men boken i sig har vissa brister. Amalia Alvarez beskriver sig själv som en "arbetare som tecknar" snarare än en kostnär, men illustrationerna funkar ändå bra. Däremot är det en massa stor text och relativt få, relativt små bilder, vilket inte var helt oundvikligt trots att texten är parallelt på tre olika språk (svenska, spanska och engleska). Det största problemet är dock att texterna inte verkar ha korrekturlästs ordentligt. Det tycker jag är förståeligt, men ändå lite synd.

Contar este tipo de historias de una forma accesible es importante, y todo el proyecto contenedor Tusen serier parece bastante interesante, pero el libro en algunas faltas. Amalia Alvarez se presenta como una "trabajadora que dibuja" y no como una artista, pero las ilustraciones a mí me gustaron bastante. Lo que me gusta menos es que hay muchísimo texto y relativamente pocas imágenes relativamente pequeñas, lo cual no era del todo inevitable a pesar de que el texto aparece en paralelo en tres idiomas diferentes (sueco, español e inglés). El mayor problema, sin embargo, es que los textos no parecen haber sido revisados con cuidado, y eso me parece comprensible, pero aun así es una pena.

Despite its inviting art style, I can't say I had fun reading this - as the pretentious call this kind of comic books - "graphic novel". I was compelled by the adjective "Kafkaesque" on the back cover, but I should have learned from previous experience that, if I really want to enjoy something Kafkaesque, I should go back to The Castle or The Trial. There's nothing quite like them. Plus, British humor is very foreign to me most of the time, and this was not one of the times it wasn't.

Rek and Devine (Hundred Rabbits) are among the most inspiring human beings in my RSS feeds. They live aboard a sailboat and, when they embark in a long-distance adventure, they sometimes share their travel logbooks as blog posts and/or, as in this case, (e)books that combine travel impressions with practical tips for other sailors.

I have no knowledge of and no particular interest in sailing, but I always read their updates fondly. In fact, I had already read their Victoria to Sitka logbook transcript online. The ebook, however, is much richer and more polished: I was delighted to learn that we travel at similar speeds (their daily progress at sea is comparable to the distances I travel on my longer bikepacking adventures), enjoy Rek's beautiful, funny illustrations on e-paper and find some recipes to try out at the end of the book.

Che fatica, 'sti sillabari!

Che i racconti di questa raccolta siano poesie in prosa, come li descrive l'autore stesso, mi pare abbastanza vero, ma questo non è certo un giudizio di valore. Della poesia hanno, anzi, solo le caratteristiche che meno mi attraggono verso il genere, o meglio verso il suo stereotipo: un notevole sentimentalismo, una certa sconclusionatezza e direi forse anche un pizzico di pretenziosità. Per giunta, l'autore fa mostra di una spiazzante fissazione con l'Italia, l'italianità e, più avanti nel libro, un po' con le nazionalità in generale.

Ho perseverato nella lettura solo perché il libro mi è stato consigliato da mio padre, con cui condivido molte delle mie migliori letture, e per gli incipit promettenti di alcuni dei racconti, quasi nessuno dei quali si è poi rivelato particolarmente memorabile.

@damiana85books se le vuoi dare un'altra chance, io il suo adattamento di Antigone l'ho trovato ottimo. Le altre poche cose che ho letto, meno.

I had a little bit of idle time during a long weekend in Stockholm and stumbled upon the småtryck (=small print) section at Serieteket (=the comics library). The format is super nice, but when it comes to this particular mini-comic I don't think I've really gotten the point.

Den här boken med den oemotståndliga titeln En saga om en saga och andra sagor innehåller historien bakom Gösta Berlings saga (en saga om en saga), den korta romanen Tösen från Stormyrtorpet och sju andra korta berättelser (andra sagor) som tar plats på en rad olika platser och historiska epoker. Alla är så välskrivna att man vill gärna läsa igenom dem i ett svep.

Tösen från Stormyrtorpet kostade mig en natts sömn, vilket jag aldrig tänkte skulle hända med just Selma Lagerlöf då språket är inte helt lättläst, i alla fall för mig som andraspråkstalare. Kanske är den här boken lite lättare än Gösta Berling, kanske har jag blivit bättre på att läsa Selma Lagerlöf; säkerligen har romanen, såsom Gösta Berling, en fenomenal öppningsreplik som fick mig att läsa vidare och vidare utan paus.

Den sista novellen, Luftballongen, läste jag tvärtom så långsamt som möjligt för att jag var rädd på epilogen, och mycket riktigt.

A spingermi a rileggere Sotto la ruota è stato il desiderio di ritrovare una descrizione letteraria della sensazione di spossatezza, nel mio caso tutto sommato lieve, che sto avvertendo all'inizio di quello che sarà il mio ultimo anno di dottorato.

Tornare sui romanzi di Hesse, che ho letto ed amato abbastanza precocemente, mi fa sempre un certo effetto. Alcuni passaggi mi sorprendono per l'esattezza con cui si sono conservati nella mia memoria, quasi fossero pensieri concepiti e molte volte rielaborati da me medesima: è questo il caso della descrizione di Lucius, compagno di seminario del protagonista del romanzo. Altri aspetti - in questo caso il sarcasmo che l'autore riserva al padre e agli insegnanti del protagonista - mi risultano completamente nuovi, come se non li avessi affatto colti alla prima lettura.

A ciò si aggiunge, questa volta, un nuovo apprezzamento per l'abilità di Hesse nel descrivere gli stati d'animo dell'adolescenza (esempio: "Hans infatti era all'apice della fierezza adolescenziale e aveva antenne sensibili che lo avvertivano di qualunque contatto indesiderato con la propria coscienza"); apprezzamento la cui consapevolezza è data dal fatto di essere diventata una persona adulta e poter guardare a quella fase della vita con relativo distacco. L'altro lato della medaglia è la sensazione di aver perso per sempre la possibilità di identificarmi con i suoi personaggi.

Difficile riconoscersi in questo "femminismo della differenza". Il mio femminismo, se così lo si può e lo si vuole chiamare, è molto più alla Bianca Pitzorno di Extraterrestre alla pari.

I enjoyed the conversation through which this book was recommended to me way more than the book itself. Given that I have no training in political economy, I should have approached it as serious out-of-my-comfort-zone academic reading rather than struggling through it late at night or during sleepy Saturday brunches. Even so, the central chapters ("Data", "Labor" and "Landlords") were worth the effort. I only skimmed through the last two ("Risks" and "Futures"), but I guess that's ok because all of them are actually self-contained essays.

Varie cose in questo libro mi lasciano perplessa, ma quella fatale, fin dalle prime pagine, è la scarsissima credibilità della lingua, sia per quel che riguarda i dialoghi, sia in quanto all'io narrante. La persona media, a maggior ragione se parla italiano come seconda lingua e tiene a farci sapere immediatamente che "non ha mai avuto dimestichezza con le lingue", non commenta la "scortesia dei doganieri" dicendo che dovrebbero limitarsi a "svolgere le loro mansioni". Non volendo esprimersi più colloquialmente, l'autore avrebbe potuto semplicemente optare per una narrazione in terza persona.
