…It would be more 3,5. The build up of the book is intruiguing and well done. I would say the climax a bit too unsurprising. But what can you do? Come up with a neat new turnout for a story is very difficult so it cannot be hold against the author.
Still have to understand where Stephenson is going with this: apart for the anti communist strain that's been ramping up in his novels, will this explore something interesting as it has been the case with termination shock and seveneves or will it be 4chan rubbish as Reamde? I guess time will tell and he has earned my attention for now.

Quanto di più pynchoniano mi sia capitato di leggere in Italia. Scritto da me penso sia il massimo complimento.
Stona solo una scena totalmente fuori contesto sul finire in cui si imbrattano i partigiani del tutto gratuitamente, forse per irresistibile tentazione all'equidistanza (di solito figlia di una mediocre voglia di piacere a tutti e di approvazione), o forse per altro calcolo che però non sono riuscito a interpretare.
Al netto di questo un libro che ti travolge e ti porta lontano e vicino al tempo stesso, come solo il maestro sa fare.

The basic idea behind the book is fascinating but the whole subplot around the characters is a bit pushy. Don't know how to better explain it. Would have used more subtlety and nuances. Still a nice run.
