It's probably not the best Farrant novel I've read, but it's still a gorgeous, touching, adventurous story I'd be sorry to have missed. As usual, we're talking about friendship, family, and adventures and I can't think of anything better, and, as usual, pace and style are excellent. Simply, this book seems a bit thinner - not much, but a bit. But I complain just because this is one of my favorite authors for this kind of books - because The Secret of Golden Island is a novel I wholeheartedly suggest everybody to read.

I'm sad to know that this is the last chapter of this incredible series, but I'm also happy to have read one last great adventure with the Dales Detective Agency crew: another complex and intriguing case - this time involving two famous Bruncliffe "expats" - while a promised marriage struggles to be organized. And as usual there is a lot to enjoy here, starting with the several characters and their interactions, and following the mystery development.
A pleasant reading that'll last in my memory for long time.

A Lee Child book without any Reacher scene - that (of course) still rocks.
A short-novel anthology is always a risk, because it's impossible to have just top-notch stories, even when a great writer is involved, but this time I must say I'm quite intrigued to be able to enjoy Lee Child's capabilities with so many different viewpoints. Most of the included stories showcase killers, cops & spies, but others are a bit outside of the strict thriller genre (like My First Drug Trial, New Blank Document, and Dying for a Cigarette), still showing a memorable style and being great to read.
My favorite top 5 titles are probably:
- The Bone-Headed League
- Wet with Rain
- The Snake-Eater by the Numbers
- The Bodyguard
- Ten Keys

Avevo comprato (cartacea) anni fa l'edizione della Gargoyle ma, dopo averne letta una parte, avevo abbandonato il romanzo senza terminarlo. Sapendo di questa edizione che l'autore dichiara molto più fedele a come doveva essere per lui quest'opera, ho deciso di riprovare e sono assolutamente impressionato da quanto mi sono trovato davanti. Non so ovviamente se questo gradimento dipenda da un qualche cambio di stesura, o dal fatto che nel tempo ho letto e apprezzato altro dello stesso autore e mi sono magari innamorato del suo stile ruvido ma affascinante, ma le quasi 900 pagine sono state una avventura splendida che non posso non consigliare agli amanti dell'horror.
Bellissimi personaggi, bella struttura narrativa, ottime descrizioni (e l'ambientazione in gran parta modenese!) e dialoghi decisamente godibili.

Avevo sentito parlare di questo libro quando è uscito, ma le poche righe di trama che avevo letto non mi avevano catturato. L'ho chiesto e ricevuto in regalo da poco e l'ho invece divorato e apprezzato. Lo stile è splendido come lo sono le tematiche affrontate. Una storia cupissima contornata da una cupa situazione - reale - degli "indiani" (il virgolettato lo metto per scrupolo, offendendo però alcuni dei protagonisti che parlano della cosa verso l'ultimo quarto del romanzo).
Un ottimo horror - si parla più o meno di una maledizione - con tante pagine praticamente perfette.

Poirot è presente più o meno in metà di questo bel romanzo, dove l'aspetto personale e storico è abbastanza ampio, ma il suo ruolo rimane fondamentale e la parte gialla è interessante e complessa. Libro assolutamente godibile.

A great reading, with a simple but quite effective drawing style. I loved every single character in this graphic novel, and even if I've never ever thought about joining a commune I love how her inner anger, her desire for a better world, and the complex friendship she has with the other characters, are portrayed.

Non conoscevo, se non di nome, l'autore - che avevo sempre associato ad opere di Hard Sci-Fi. Ma questo splendido romanzo - di fantascienza, brillante - mi ha già fatto selezionare almeno un altro paio di suoi libri per le mie prossime letture.
Divertente quanto cinematografica, quest'opera mi manca già, mi mancano le sue intriganti ambientazioni e i personaggi, partendo ovviamente dall'io narrante, Jamie Gray, e vedrò sicuramente di consigliarlo (e regalarlo) ad amici e conoscenti appassionati del genere.

Another masterpiece. A funny, touching, well-written novel about kids, friendship, families, and nature. Yes, Rescue of Ravenwood is a mid-grade. But it's nevertheless one of the best books I've read in the last year - as it happened for the previous works of the same author.

Well, I'm surely sad this quite nice and cozy series is near its end, but I'm happy to see that this penultimate novel (the one set after the Procter thing - that's to say the MAIN thing so far, with Samson legal issues) is still a very enjoyable reading with an intriguing mystery plot - this time involving Will, Delilah's fierce brother, together with some ambiental theme.
And I've surely loved more than once advances in the Bruncliffe global plot, which makes me hope to be able to have a nice closure for this wonderful little town.

Mi rendo conto che è un po' assurdo valutare tre stelline e mezzo l'intero corpus dei racconti di Poirot, ma in effetti avere avuto modo di leggerli tutti, e in fila, mi ha permesso di notare come il livello iniziale - per lo più altissimo - sia calato nel tempo, per arrivare a qualche specifico testo davvero mediocre verso la fine.
Rimane un volume da "studiare" e non solo da leggere - godibile e affascinante. E suppongo che alla fine anche le cose meno belle siano in ogni caso ugualmente da conoscere.

Non tutto mi è suonato corretto in quest'ultima opera di Donato Carrisi - un'opera divisa in qualche modo in atti, con un personaggio principale a mio parere dalle troppe variazioni. MA rimane un romanzo godibilissimo, con capitoli perfetti soprattutto nella prima parte investigativa, che è difficile comunque non consigliare.
