I may have liked more The Children of Castle Rock but this new Farrant's novel is absolutely great. The adventures of Ben and Lotti, their friendship, the after WW situation, the (many) dogs - every page of the Voyage of the Sparrowhawk (that's a narrowboat) is an impressing (and often moving) jump in kid's world - full of reminiscences of classic literature of this genre described with a vivid while soft style that won't let you easily close the book, before its end.

Un finale è un finale. Questo è il libro con cui l'autore ha deciso di chiudere in modo permanente il suo lungo e proficuo sodalizio con il suo personaggio più famoso ed è originale e interessante.
Ma a me NON è piaciuto. Apprezzo tecnicamente la scelta, non l'idea in sé e la stesura. Anche se è possibile che cambi idea a riguardo, rielaborando questa vicenda nel tempo.
Una lettura comunque praticamente imperdibile per chi ha seguito anche solo in parte lo sviluppo di uno dei più famosi commissari letterari d'Italia

My review of this third book is more or less similar to the one I wrote after reading the second one. This story is nice to read - but not as good as the first one. Even more this time because a lot of things seem a bit unbalanced or stretched a bit too far. And some of the characters (including Rufus) seems sometimes not more than placeholders it's easy to forget about.
I overall enjoyed it - and so I surely suggest its reading, if you're into Agatha and her crew as I must admit I've been during her journey.

Not as good as the first book - in my opinion - but nevertheless a nice Mystery adventure that definitely becomes better after the first half. This time we already know Agatha, she got TWO friends instead of one (and Brianna comes with "benefits"), so things start at a different pace - even because of the intriguing "subplot" of the first book now is a big part of the structure.
Something (oddly, if I can use this "pun") reminded me Harry Potter - even if here, of course, there's no magic at all - but that's not a negative thing at all.
So curious now to read the third (and so far the last one, as far as I know) volume of this fascinating series.

Another after-the-end-of-the-world novel, this time where survivors we're going to read about are in a luxury hotel in a remote place in Switzerland. But we're also reading about a single killing our main characters will try to understand, about a ghost kid, a lost father, a missing royal suite, about drugs, suicides, killings, radiations, love and potential madness.
A whole choral situation - full of similarities with other works, but completely original at the same time - witty written, intriguing, and unstoppable.
A very nice work to read - full of rich and complex characters and great dialogues - you'll be sorry to end.
I didn't know the author before this book, but I'll surely remember her name from this time forward.

Quattro stelline e mezzo per questo (primo?) romanzo di Fabiano Massimi - davvero stupendo. Coinvolgente, credibile, con una scrittura che riesce a tratteggiare molto bene la Monaco degli anni '30 - dove troviamo il protagonista muoversi tra i più importanti membri del partito nazista - ma che, nonostante le suggestive descrizioni, rimane rapida e scorrevole in una narrazione ricchissima di colpi di scena e con un ritmo elevato e incalzante.
Forse il finale, bello e più che emozionante, è l'unica parte in cui la capacità cinematografica dell'autore supera un filo il "livello di guardia" e trasforma questo ottimo giallo (che per il resto sembra una spy story) in qualcosa di più smaccatamente d'azione.
Belli i personaggi, intriganti i dialoghi, spiazzante (per i richiami anche con una parte del presente) l'ambientazione.
Un libro assolutamente da consigliare.

A really great novel, that reminded me so much of other books I've read when I was a child - without really resembling none of them. It may be not perfect in all its parts, but I really can't think to find easily a better book this just started year.
You must read it.

Un bell'omaggio a Inge Feltrinelli - delicato e con belle immagini. Leggero sotto vari punti di vista ma assolutamente godibile.

Another nice adventure for this very intriguing Mumbay detective agency - and this time Chopra, Ganesh and their friends will try to find out about the death of Cyrus Zorabian - a powerful and influential Parsee with more secrets police could discover during their initial investigations.
A very lovely and interesting story - with Chopra's wife supporting a "poo campain" - in which the only complain is that there's almost no space in the plot for Irfan (but this in favor of a lot of other characters).

Anche qui forse 4,5 e non 5 - ma comunque un libro davvero bello, forte e evocativo. Una distopia adulta, vista dall'"interno" (non dal punto di vista di un eroe) dove l'associazione di cui avevo sentito parlare con 1984 non suona così improbabile.
Prima di questo libro (precedente e non poco come stesura) avevo letto Vox (che affronta aspetti simili, con un tono e uno stile però davvero molto differenti) ma se di quel libro avevo avuto riserve de Il racconto dell'ancella il consiglio di lettura è assolutamente certo e scontato.

I really liked this book - Agatha (with his friends - real and imaginary too) is a quite cool kid investigator, her background and school life are nice and complex, and the London i can see thru her adventures is vivid and astonishing.
I just have to admit I liked less the last third of the book - the final part - including the last part of the proper action finale. That's not bad at all - but it has a completely different tone (at least for my taste) and it was not as solid as the previous parts.
Anyway - I'm definitely in love - so I'll be reading more by this author in a near future.

Un finale avventuroso e carico di richiami quello che Cecilia Randall ci propone per questo terzo libro della seconda trilogia di Hyperversum. Il rapporto tra storia e introspezione/rapporto tra Alex e Marc è inevitabilmente cambiato rispetto al libro precedente, ma nessun aspetto narrativo è stato trascurato e, anzi, ci troviamo davanti a una storia a tratti anche più "nera" del consueto, pur in un contesto in linea con il target un po' più giovane di Next rispetto alle prime avventure nel passato.
Godibile e emozionante, con una bella struttura, in grado di confermare un volta in più l'ormai assodata abilità di questa autrice nel raccontarci il medioevo e nel farci innamorare dei suoi personaggi.

A great book. The writer recreated Siobhan Dowd's characters and atmosphere in a very good way (and NY location is very nice) - and I guess this is even a better mystery than the first one (many suspects - everyone with a backstory).
I may have liked the first one a bit more (because of its originality - I mean here I already know Ted and his sister) but I think this is a wonderful sequel of that gorgeous first adventure.
