Palesemente la parte prima di un romanzo in due tomi, salvabile se si leggono assieme

Alla prima lettura nel 2015 Il sangue degli elfi mi aveva lasciato molto freddo, perché ha una grossa debolezza strutturale: i suoi eventi sono la premessa di una vasta trama che si innesca davvero solo nel quarto romanzo, così che si ha la giustificata sensazione di leggere un gigantesco prologo, tutto preparazione e niente scioglimento. E non aiuta che Sapkowski qui abbia dato il via a una trama politica da Guerra e Pace fantasy ma non si sia mai degnato di disegnare una mappa, il che mi impediva di visualizzare gli spostamenti dei personaggi e le crisi internazionali. Ciò detto, la seconda lettura è stata piacevole: ho trattato il romanzo come se fosse la parte 1 di una storia che finisce nel quarto volume e ha funzionato molto meglio, i cliffhanger in particolare, e aver recuperato una mappa ufficiosa dell'ambientazione rende finalmente comprensibili i dicorsi di geografia – anzi, si …

Di sicuro un romanzo debole, ma c'è una prospettiva dalla quale funziona decentemente.
