Der Roman zeichnet das Bild einer sozialistischen, abgeschlossenen Gesellschaft die sich im Umbruch befindet. Nachdem viele Generationen ohne Kontakt nach außen durchs All geflogen sind werden die Menschen seit einigen Jahren mit anderen Gesellschaftsformen konfrontiert.

Anhand von mehreren Personen wird aufgezeigt welche Konflikte entstehen können wenn ein kapitalistisch, technisch weiterentwickeltes Wirtschaftssystem bisherige Realitäten in frage stellt.

Wie auch die anderen Bände aus der Reihe von Becky Chambers ist der Text und auch die Übersetzung sehr angenehm zu lesen. Die Charaktere sind glaubhaft. Besonders begeistert mich aber die Darstellung der Gesellschaft als ganzes. Gerade durch die verschiedenen Perspektiven entsteht ein guter Eindruck.

I had a hard time making it through the first half of this one. It felt disjointed due to jumping around between multiple groups too quickly. Once the binding event happened in the last 50% of the book, it became easier to get through and follow along. I also just had a rough time connecting to the characters. I stuck it out through the first half because I did enjoy the dive into the Exodan culture and how they're still trying to find their place in the universe. Definitely my least favorite in the series so far.

interesting stories for the different caracters. but I liked the first 2 books of the wayfarer series better

life in space, many years after heading from earth, continuing the #wayfarers series. I'm delighted by the characterization and worldbuilding, my heart is warmed

This is my least favourite book in the series so far. Turns out, humans aren’t that interesting. I think it needed to be written though, so I feel weird about it.
